“You may lack limbs, but don’t let that define what you can or can’t do.”   That’s the life-changing advice Boris Vujicic spoke to his son, Nick, who was born without arms or legs. With the help of his parents, Nick has become an internationally-known inspirational speaker, a best-selling author, the founder of the non-profit organization Life Without Limbs and, most importantly, a loving and responsible husband and father himself.   But Nick’s journey didn’t start there. Raising the Perfectly Imperfect Child is the inspiring, powerfully transparent story of how two unprepared and overwhelmed parents–Boris and Dushka Vujicic–overcame their grief, fears, and badly shaken faith to raise such an accomplished, faith-filled, and perfectly imperfect son.   Through their stories, Boris offers practical advice and encouragement for all parents facing a “new normal” when raising a special needs or unique child. With transparency and tenderness, he addresses the spiritual, emotional, and financial challenges, as well as offering insight on how to equip a child for happiness and success in life.

My Review:

Boris Vujicic in his book tells some of the same stories that Nick tells in his books. Except this time we are getting a father’s point of view. Parents of children with disabilities will especially benefit from this book but, it’s great for any parent. This book has great parenting advice for any parent. Upon discovering that their son didn’t have arms or legs they were devastated. They had doubts about whether they could care for a child with a disability. Nick is now a much sought-after speaker, traveling the world, inspiring people to live a great life. A major factor shaping him into the inspiring leader that he is, is the no-nonsense way in which he was raised. This is a fabulous book but, it is serious and full of truths that we should all hear. My favorite was, “Our experiences in raising Nick taught us that if you put your trust in God’s way, He will provide you with all the strength you need.” We need to trust God no matter what. He’s got us in the palm of his hand. So go and read this book. You won’t be disappointed.
